While this year might get off to a slow start with Mars and Mercury retrograde until mid-January, as you move into the late winter/early spring, forward momentum takes over and the preparation you have needed to do in the past few months starts to make more sense. Because we have three outer planets moving into new signs this year (Jupiter into Taurus, Saturn into Pisces, and Pluto into Aquarius), there is a feeling of potential and newness in the air. These planets are starting a new cycle in their respective signs, allowing for curiosity and the opportunity to begin again, releasing past hurts and baggage so you can fully step into the present.
March is a big month, as both Pluto and Saturn move into new signs. Saturn in Pisces shortens the distance between dreams and reality. For the next couple of years, you align your mastery to a greater purpose in the universe. Imagination and idealism support what’s possible and also inspire others. Your sense of social responsibility and spiritual purpose fuel your sense of service to a higher calling beyond just yourself. You are better able to get out of your own way to honor how you fit into a larger vision/effort. It’s not about you, and that can be liberating. Instead, it’s about the work flowing through you and you being the beautiful vessel to bring it into being.
Pluto moves into Aquarius in March, ending its transit through Capricorn. Aquarius rules technology and collectively we’re reckoning with the impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning and the power of algorithms. Because the water-bearer has a humanitarian ethos, I’m also hopeful that the abuses of power revealed while Pluto moved through Capricorn are replaced by a more equitable system that distributes power more from the bottom up. For example, the US Constitution was written the last time Pluto was in Aquarius. We will have the opportunity to innovate as a collective and change will happen fast and furiously with Aquarius. May we also reckon with new ways to assess the value of technology for humanity to ensure that it is actually serving our fulfillment on a soul and spiritual level. Rather than sucking us into screens and splintering our attention in a way that puts more profits in the hands of large technology companies (not that I have an opinion :). In your personal life, you will be looking at ways in which you’ve followed a rulebook that needs updating or even a complete overhaul. Pay attention to the ways you feel called to engage and serve your people to promote equality and freedom.
In May, exactly as Jupiter moves into Taurus it squares Pluto in Aquarius, both at 0 degrees. Aquarius and Taurus are both fixed signs which means you are concentrating and distilling the powerful forces of both these planets. Faith, expansion, and transformation are afoot. Just know that your powers of discretion may be low and you may get overzealous since this is a square. Utilize your spiritual practice to help ground you and keep your vision front and center. You are getting clear on where you need to focus in order to continue to expand into a larger vision for yourself.
2023 also brings some heart healing, with Venus retrograde in Leo for the summer. I can’t in good conscience recommend this summer for a wedding (it’s in its shadow or retrograde from 6.20 through 10.7). It is an excellent period to renew your vows and you probably could get away with holding a wedding that you had to call off due to the pandemic or other factors in the past. All the words that I associate with retrogrades– renew, review, slow down– are now yours to be applied to all matters of the heart. This is an excellent summer to plan a fun trip with old friends since you need some reminding of who you have been all along. Important people from your past will come to the surface, and trust that they are showing up for you to do some retrieval work around your desires and what you long for. Inner child work is also favored with Venus in Leo. If you are single, you may have some unfinished business with a partner/friend from the past. You probably won’t know where things are going long-term until the fall when Venus moves out of this cycle. For everyone, make sure you build in some creative playtime this summer to feed your heart and soul.
