This full moon highlights a person, situation, or circumstance that you need to let go of. It’s easier said than done when you’ve poured out blood, sweat, and tears into something. You’ve been attached to things working out, because of the time and energy you’ve dedicated, despite evidence and signs telling you that the future you desire isn’t going to come to pass. Or perhaps you’ve seen the signs, and you’ve been planning your escape route. Whatever the case may be, you feel the entire emotional weight of it.
There is a quest symbology in the astrology of this full moon. You are asked to take a trust walk into the future. As much as possible, limit your time thinking up shoulda-coulda-woulda-been scenarios about the past. This can be difficult with Cancer energy, because it tends to be the most nostalgic of the 12 signs. You did your best at the time with what you knew. You have also grown a lot, and just as a crab has to periodically shed its shell and grow a new one, you must willingly let go of your old shell to grow a new one. Uranus makes a nice aspect to this full moon, providing support for you to go your own way and simply take the next best step.
Your relationships come under some pressure and scrutiny. The big feelings coursing through your being may point you to some conversations to clear the air. However, if your approach involves taking yourself or others overly seriously, it could backfire. I had a wise friend who once said, after a disagreement with her husband, “Do I want to be right or do I want to stay married?” While I do not for a minute suggest that anyone should stuff their true feelings and ideas in order to be with someone, the need to be “right” adds a toxic element to relationships and interactions. It cuts you off from our hearts and having truly open two-way communication. There are ways to deal with conflict that honor curiosity and support a non-threatening way of expressing our ideas and asking questions. This may require taking lots of pauses and slowing down.
One thing to celebrate about Cancer energy is that it tends to not hold a grudge. Once you feel something completely, you can let it go. This is significant because you are setting your emotional tone for 2021. And part of setting that tone is fully feeling and releasing 2020. I leave you with the Rumi poem, “The Guest House,” that articulates this so beautifully:
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Questions to Ponder: In what ways can I honor the feelings and questions that are up for me right now? How might I be clearing out the emotional closets of what 2020 brought up for me? What am I most curious about for 2021?
